What happens in Kontuly if I'm not registered for GST?

Applies to Kontuly 0.2 beta Updated

If Registered for GST is unticked in Kontuly's Settings, every transaction is treated as having no GST: invoices have no Tax column, bank amounts go to their account in full, and nothing reaches the GST accounts. Tick it when you register, and GST is worked out from then on.

  1. Open Settings and find GST & returns.
  2. Tick or untick Registered for GST.
  3. Choose your Accounting basis and BAS frequency if you're registered.
  4. Click Save changes.

What changes when I'm not registered?

  • Invoices, bills, credit notes and bank lines carry no GST, and the Tax column disappears from the invoice screen.
  • Manual journals can't post to the GST accounts: "Business is not registered for GST — journal lines cannot post to GST accounts".
  • There's no GST card on the Dashboard.
  • The GST Report still runs, and its notes say "This business is not registered for GST."
  • If you're registered, the Profit and Loss shows amounts excluding GST; if not, its notes say amounts include any GST you paid.

I've just registered for GST

Tick Registered for GST and save. It affects transactions you record from then on; posted transactions don't change. A draft invoice is recalculated when you approve it, so it uses the registration that applies at that moment.

Set the date your registration starts with your accountant or registered BAS agent, and run your first GST Report from that date.

I'm no longer registered

Untick it and save. Earlier transactions keep their GST, so your past BAS figures are unchanged.
