How do I set an app password in Kontuly?
In Kontuly, open Settings → Security and click Set a password… under App password. Kontuly then asks for the password when it opens, after a time without use, and when the computer sleeps or its screen locks.
- Open Settings and scroll to Security.
- Click Set a password… under App password.
- Type the password twice. It must be at least 8 characters.
- Click Save. You'll see Password saved.
- Choose Lock after: 5, 15, 30 or 60 minutes without using the computer, or Only on sleep or screen lock.
Click Lock now to lock it straight away.
What happens while it's locked?
Nothing in your books can be seen or changed. It isn't just hidden behind the lock screen. Anything you were in the middle of, such as a half-typed invoice, is still there when you unlock. Recurring invoices, reminders and off-site copies keep running.
With running in the background on, closing the window locks Kontuly too.
I typed the wrong password several times
After five wrong passwords in a row, Kontuly makes you wait 30 seconds before trying again, and the wait doubles after each further wrong one.
I forgot my app password
It can't be recovered, by you or by us. Install Kontuly afresh and restore your latest backup, for example an off-site copy or an exported file. Write the password down and keep it somewhere safe.
How do I change or remove it?
Use Change password… or Remove password under App password. Both need the current password.
Does it encrypt my books?
No. It controls access to the app. Protect the file itself with your computer's disk encryption; see Is Kontuly secure?
