Can Kontuly send reminders when its window is closed?

Applies to Kontuly 0.2 beta Updated

Yes, with Running in the background turned on in Kontuly's Settings. Overdue reminders, recurring invoices and bills, exchange rates and off-site backups only happen while Kontuly is running; with this on, it keeps running with its window closed, and on a Mac or Windows it starts when you log in.

  1. Open Settings from the sidebar.
  2. Tick the box under Running in the background. It saves straight away and applies to every business on this computer. What the box says depends on your computer:
    • Mac: Open Kontuly when I log in and keep it running in the menu bar when its window is closed
    • Windows: Start Kontuly when I sign in to Windows and keep it running in the notification area when its window is closed
    • Linux: Keep Kontuly running in the system tray when its window is closed
  3. On a Mac, allow the login item if asked: System Settings → General → Login Items. Settings shows a reminder until you do.

Where does Kontuly go when I close the window?

  • Mac: a K in the menu bar.
  • Windows: an icon in the notification area (you may need to click the arrow beside the clock).
  • Linux: an icon in the system tray. On Linux Kontuly doesn't start itself when you log in.

Click the icon and choose Open Kontuly to open the window, or Quit Kontuly to stop it completely.

Does it run when the computer is off or asleep?

No. Nothing runs while the computer is off. If you close Kontuly at the end of the day without this setting, reminders wait until you open it again, and recurring invoices and bills catch up then.

What about my app password?

If Kontuly has an app password, closing the window locks it, so opening it again from the icon asks for the password. Reminders and backups keep running while it's locked.

Why does Kontuly keep running after I close it?

Running in the background is on. Quit from the menu bar or notification-area icon, or untick the setting.
