How do I sell a kit or bundle of items in Kontuly?

Applies to Kontuly 0.2 beta Updated

In Kontuly, a kit (or bundle) is an item you sell as one that's made up of tracked stock items, for example a gift pack of two mugs and a box. Tick This item is a kit in the item's Inventory settings and add its components; selling the kit takes each component out of stock.

  1. Click New item in Items and give the kit its own name, sale price and income account.
  2. Tick This item is a kit under Inventory.
  3. Add the components. Click Add a component, choose each tracked item, and enter how many of it one kit takes.
  4. Click Save.

Each component must already be a tracked stock item. See How do I track stock in Kontuly?

What happens when I sell a kit?

On an approved invoice, each component comes out of stock: the number of kits times the component's quantity, at that component's own cost and to its own cost-of-sales account. A customer's return of a kit on a credit note brings its components back.

Can I buy kits?

No. Kits are only sold. Buy the components on bills and purchase orders, and they come into stock one by one.

Can I change a kit's components?

Only until the kit has been sold. After that the components are fixed, because a later return of an earlier sale brings back the components it was sold with. You can still change its name, price and accounts. To sell a different mix, create a new kit item. A kit used on a document can't stop being a kit; an unused one can be deleted.

Can a kit be on a contract with a payment schedule?

No. A contract with tracked stock items, kits included, can't have a payment schedule.
