Which export formats does Kontuly have for accountants?
Kontuly exports your books for Xero, MYOB Business and AccountRight, QuickBooks Online and Reckon Accounts, for the practice ledgers accountants use (MYOB AO, MYOB AE, Reckon APS and HandiLedger), and as Generic CSV for any spreadsheet. Each export includes a READ-ME with the import steps.
Bookkeeping packages
- Generic CSV: chart of accounts, contacts, opening and closing trial balances and every journal line. Opens in Excel or any spreadsheet.
- Xero: chart of accounts, contacts and manual journals. Journals import as drafts to review and post. Xero archives accounts missing from the chart file, so review before confirming. Xero won't post a manual journal to a bank account, so each bank account's lines go to a clearing account named after it; code its statement lines to that account when reconciling in Xero, and it returns to zero. Large exports are split into numbered files.
- MYOB Business / AccountRight: accounts, customer and supplier contacts and account balances in MYOB's import templates, plus general journals for AccountRight on the desktop. MYOB in a browser can't import journals, so type the balances into its opening balances instead. Back up the MYOB company file first: imports can't be undone.
- QuickBooks Online: chart of accounts, customers, vendors and journal entries. Import the chart of accounts first, because QuickBooks matches journal lines to accounts by name.
- Reckon Accounts (IIF): accounts and journals for Reckon Accounts on the desktop (no contacts). Import accounts first and back up first: IIF imports can't be undone.
Your accountant's practice ledger
These are for the software accountants use for tax returns and year-end work. They're the same files MYOB AccountRight produces for accountants, so your accountant imports them as they would for a MYOB client.
- MYOB AO: chart of accounts and the period's journals.
- MYOB AE (MAS): the period's journals, each line with its GST code.
- Reckon APS: the period's journals.
- HandiLedger: the period's journals.
They hold the period's transactions only, not opening balances, because your accountant's ledger carries last year's balances forward. Account codes are Kontuly's, so the first time your accountant may need to match them to their ledger.
Which should I choose?
Ask your accountant which package they import into. Then follow How do I send my books to my accountant?
Is there a Sage export?
Not for Australian businesses. You can convert from Sage 50 or Sage Accounting into Kontuly, but exports go in the formats above.
