How do I import contacts or a chart of accounts into Kontuly?

Applies to Kontuly 0.2 beta Updated

In Kontuly, open Import & export → Import contacts or accounts, choose what to import and the package the file came from, then choose the file. Nothing is posted and no trial balance is needed, so it suits a business that's already running in Kontuly.

  1. Open Import & export in the sidebar, under Settings, and choose the Import contacts or accounts tab.
  2. Choose What to import: Contacts or Chart of accounts, and the package the file comes from.
  3. Click Choose file… and pick the export. Kontuly reads Excel (.xlsx), CSV, tab-separated text and IIF files.
  4. Check the columns. Kontuly matches each column of the file to a field; change any that are wrong, or choose Not in the file. For a chart of accounts, check each account's type, report group and tax rate in the list.
  5. Check what the import will do, then click Import.

What happens to contacts I already have?

Contacts are matched by name. A new name becomes a new contact. For a name already here, only empty details (email, phone, address, ABN) are filled in; nothing you've entered is overwritten. A customer who's also in a supplier file becomes both.

What happens to accounts I already have?

Accounts are added under codes you don't use yet. An account whose code is already used is left exactly as it is, and receivables, payables and GST accounts are left out because you already have them. Header rows, rows with no code and codes that appear twice are listed as left out, with the reason.

Should I use this or the conversion?

Use the conversion when you're moving your books into a new business and want opening balances and unpaid invoices and bills too. Use this to add contacts or accounts at any time.
