Can I switch to Kontuly from MYOB, Xero, QuickBooks, Reckon or Sage?
Yes. Kontuly converts your books from Xero, MYOB (in a browser or AccountRight), QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, Reckon Accounts, Sage 50, Sage Accounting or another package. It brings across your chart of accounts, contacts, opening balances and unpaid invoices and bills, not your past transactions.
What comes across?
- your chart of accounts (the list of categories your money is sorted into);
- your contacts, customers and suppliers;
- your opening balances, from a trial balance (a report listing every account's balance on one date);
- your unpaid invoices and bills, including unapplied credits, so you can record their payments in Kontuly.
What doesn't?
Your transaction history. Everything is brought in as at the day before your conversion date, the first day you record transactions in Kontuly. Your old package stays the record for everything before it, so keep it, or its reports, for your records. Most accounting software converts this way.
What do I need from my old package?
Five reports or exports, each as at the day before the conversion date: chart of accounts, contacts, trial balance, open invoices (aged receivables) and open bills (aged payables). Only the trial balance is required. Kontuly reads Excel (.xlsx), CSV, tab-separated text and QuickBooks IIF files, and shows the menu path in your old package for each one.
What's the best conversion date?
The start of a financial year or a BAS period is simplest, for example 1 July. Before you convert, enter everything up to the day before in your old package and reconcile your bank accounts there, so the balances you bring across are right.
Can I go back if it goes wrong?
Yes. Kontuly takes a backup just before it imports. A business can be converted once; to start again, restore that backup. See How do I undo or redo a conversion?
How do I do it?
Set up a new, empty business, then follow How do I convert my books from another package? More is on Switching to Kontuly.
