How do I lock a period after lodging a BAS in Kontuly?

Applies to Kontuly 0.2 beta Updated

In Kontuly, open Settings, find Financial year & region, pick a date in Lock date (optional) and click Save changes. Nothing dated on or before that date can then be posted, changed or voided, so a BAS period you've lodged or a year your accountant has finalised stays as reported.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Find Financial year & region.
  3. Pick the Lock date (optional). Usually the last day of the BAS period you just lodged.
  4. Click Save changes.

To remove the lock, clear the date and save.

What does the lock block?

Anything that would post or reverse a journal dated on or before the lock date is refused with "Period is locked: transactions on or before … cannot be changed". That includes:

  • posting a manual journal;
  • approving an invoice, bill or credit note;
  • recording, matching or removing a payment or refund;
  • coding, splitting, matching or unassigning a bank line;
  • voiding anything.

Saving drafts still works. Bank lines dated in a locked period can still be imported, but bank rules won't code them; they wait for you.

I found a mistake in a locked period

The usual practice is to leave the period alone and post the correction in the current period, with a narration explaining it. If it really must go in the locked period (your accountant will tell you), clear the lock date, make the correction, then set the lock date again.

Is this the same as a reconciliation lock?

No. A finished bank reconciliation locks only the entries you ticked. The lock date blocks every change up to a date.

If you converted from another package, the conversion can set the lock date for you, at the day before your conversion date.
