How do I void or reverse a journal in Kontuly?

Applies to Kontuly 0.2 beta Updated

In Kontuly, posted journals are never edited or deleted: find the journal on the Journals screen, click its void icon (Void (post reversing entry)) and confirm with Void. Kontuly posts a reversing journal on the same date and marks the original Voided; both stay in the ledger.

  1. Find the journal on the Journals screen.
  2. Click the void icon on the right of its heading.
  3. Read the warning and click Void. You'll see "Journal voided — A reversing entry was posted."
  4. Post the corrected journal if you meant to correct it.

Already lodged that period's BAS?

The reversal is dated on the original journal's date, so voiding changes that period. If the period is finished, leave it alone: lock it and post a correcting journal in the current period, with a narration explaining it.

Journals you correct somewhere else

Journals that belong to a document or bank line are corrected where they came from, so the document and the ledger stay in step:

Journal Where to correct it
A bank transaction's Banking: Unassign (reverse) on the line
An invoice's, bill's or credit note's Void the document on its own screen
A payment or refund matched to a bank line Banking: Unassign (reverse) on the line
Depreciation or an asset disposal Fixed assets: Undo last run or Undo disposal
A currency revaluation Settings, Currency revaluation: Undo

Payments and refunds you recorded by hand can be voided here; the invoice, bill or credit note is updated in the same step.

What else blocks a void?

  • A finished bank reconciliation: "This transaction is reconciled (statement …) — undo that bank reconciliation first". See How do I undo a bank reconciliation?
  • The lock date: a journal dated on or before it can't be voided.
  • A reversal can't itself be voided: post a new entry instead.
  • The conversion journal holding the opening balances from your old software can't be voided on its own. To undo a conversion, restore the backup taken before it from Settings.
