Why does Kontuly say "Period is locked"?

Applies to Kontuly 0.2 beta Updated

Kontuly shows "Period is locked: transactions on or before … cannot be changed" when what you're doing is dated on or before the lock date in Settings → Financial year & region. Either date the correction after the lock date, or, if it truly belongs in the locked period, clear the lock date, make the change and set the lock again.

  1. Decide where the correction belongs. If the period is finished, for example its BAS is lodged, it's usually better to leave it alone and record the correction in the current period. Check with your accountant or registered BAS agent if you're unsure.
  2. To change the locked period, open Settings and find Financial year & region.
  3. Clear Lock date (optional) and click Save changes.
  4. Make the change.
  5. Set the lock date again and click Save changes.

Changing the lock date is recorded in the audit log.

What is the lock date for?

It protects figures you've already reported, such as a lodged BAS period or a financial year your accountant has finalised. Nothing dated on or before it can be posted or voided: approving invoices, bills or credit notes, recording payments, coding bank lines, posting journals or voiding anything.

What still works in a locked period?

Saving drafts, because drafts don't post anything. You can't approve them until you change their date or move the lock date. Bank lines dated in a locked period can still be imported, but bank rules leave them for you to review.

I never set a lock date

If you converted from another package, the conversion sets one to the day before your conversion date unless you unticked it, so nothing is posted into the period your old package covers.

Why can't I remove an attachment?

Attachments on approved documents and coded bank lines in a locked period can't be removed either. See How do I attach receipts and documents?
