Does Kontuly do my BAS?

Applies to Kontuly 0.2 beta Updated

Kontuly prepares the figures for your BAS (Business Activity Statement) from your books, but it doesn't lodge it. You, or your registered BAS agent or accountant, check the figures and lodge through the ATO's channels.

Which BAS figures does it work out?

The GST figures (G1, 1A and 1B), PAYG withholding (W1 and W2) and PAYG instalments, on a cash or accruals basis, monthly, quarterly or annually. Some labels aren't worked out, such as G2, G3, G10 and G11, fuel tax credits and FBT instalments. The full list is on BAS and tax.

Kontuly also prepares TPAR figures (the Taxable payments annual report) for contractor payments. Once you've lodged, you can lock the period so nothing in it changes.

How does it know my GST?

When you set up a business, you say whether it's registered for GST, whether you report on the cash or accruals basis, and how often you lodge. Kontuly then separates the GST from every sale and purchase as you record it. The GST Report in the sidebar shows the BAS figures for any period, and the Dashboard shows the current period's GST payable or refund with its due date.

Is Kontuly ATO-approved?

No. Kontuly isn't registered with, listed by or certified by the ATO. It prepares figures for you or your agent to check and lodge. Where a tax question needs judgement, check with your accountant or registered BAS agent.

Does it do payroll?

No. Record the totals from your payroll service, and the PAYG labels on your BAS come from those accounts.
