Why does Kontuly say "This journal belongs to …"?

Applies to Kontuly 0.2 beta Updated

Kontuly shows "This journal belongs to …" when you try to void, from the Journals screen, a journal that was created by an invoice, bill, credit note or bank line. Voiding it there would leave the document saying one thing and your books another, so correct it where it came from.

The message says it belongs to Correct it here
a bank transaction Banking: use Unassign (reverse) on the bank line
invoice … Invoices: void the invoice
bill … Bills: void the bill
credit note … Credit notes: void the credit note

If the message says "This payment is matched to a bank transaction", the payment came from a bank line: unassign the bank line in Banking, and the payment is removed with it.

Which journals can I void from the Journals screen?

Manual journals, and payments or refunds you recorded by hand (not matched to a bank line). Voiding a hand-recorded payment also puts the invoice or bill back to owing that amount.

What else stops a void?

  • A finished bank reconciliation that includes the journal: "This transaction is reconciled (statement …) — undo that bank reconciliation first".
  • The lock date: the reversal is dated on the original's date, so a journal dated on or before the lock date can't be voided. See Why does Kontuly say "Period is locked"?
  • The conversion journal from another package can't be voided on its own. See How do I undo or redo a conversion?
