Why can't I change the currency of a business in Kontuly?

Applies to Kontuly 0.2 beta Updated

Kontuly says "The currency can't be changed once transactions have been recorded" because every amount in a business's books is in that currency. Amounts are stored without a currency label, so changing it later would relabel every past amount. If the currency is wrong, create a new business with the right one.

What do I do if I picked the wrong currency?

  1. Set up a new business with the right currency: AUD for an Australian business. See Can I keep more than one business in Kontuly?
  2. Export anything you want to keep for reference from the old business first, such as reports as PDF or CSV.
  3. Delete the old business once you no longer need it. A final backup is saved. See How do I delete a business?

If you've only just started, this is quick. A business with no transactions yet can still have its currency changed in Settings → Financial year & region.

I invoice customers in US dollars. Do I need a USD business?

No. The business's currency is the one your books are kept in, AUD for an Australian business. Individual invoices, bills and bank accounts can be in other currencies.
