Why can't I void a bill or credit note in Kontuly?

Applies to Kontuly 0.2 beta Updated

In Kontuly, a bill can't be voided while it has payments, and a credit note can't be voided while any of its credit is applied or refunded. The Void button appears once those are removed (a draft has no Void button at all: delete it instead).

What the messages mean

Message What to do
"Remove the payments on this bill before voiding it" Open the bill and remove each payment and applied credit from its Payments list with the bin icon.
"Remove the allocations of this credit note before voiding it" Open the credit note and remove each line in its Allocations panel with the bin icon.
"Remove the refunds of this credit note before voiding it" Remove each refund in its Refunds panel.

Why is there no bin icon on a payment or refund?

It's marked matched: it belongs to a bank transaction. Go to Banking and use Unassign (reverse) on that bank line. A payment that's part of a batch is removed by cancelling the batch from Pay bills. See How do I record paying a bill?

It still won't void

  • The date is on or before your lock date. Change the lock date in Settings first, or make the correction with a new document dated today.
  • A payment is in a finished bank reconciliation. Undo that reconciliation first.
  • Stock has moved since. A bill whose stock has since been sold, or a customer return whose stock has gone out again, can't be voided. Adjust the stock instead.

Should I void at all?

A void is dated on the document's original date. If you've already lodged the BAS for that period, don't void: lock the period and record the correction dated today. Check with your accountant or registered BAS agent if you're unsure.
