Kontuly says an account has transactions and its type can't change
Kontuly locks an account's type (asset, liability, equity, income or expense) once the account has transactions, because changing it would silently move past amounts between the Profit and Loss and the Balance Sheet. Create a new account of the right type and move the balance across with a manual journal.
- Add a new account of the right type in Chart of Accounts.
- Post a manual journal in Journals that moves the balance from the old account to the new one, dated when the move should take effect. If you're not sure of the date or amounts, check with your accountant.
- Code new transactions to the new account, and update any bank rules that point at the old one.
- Archive the old account once its balance is zero. It disappears from pickers but its history stays in your reports.
Why can't I change a system account at all?
Accounts receivable, accounts payable and the GST accounts are system accounts that Kontuly relies on. They can never change type or be archived, used or not. The message names the account and its role.
It says the account is used by a fixed asset, a budget or the PAYG settings
Choose another account in that place first (the fixed asset, the budget, or BAS: PAYG in Settings), then change the type.
