How do I pay several bills with an ABA file in Kontuly?

Applies to Kontuly 0.2 beta Updated

In Kontuly, click Pay bills in Bills, tick the bills to pay, and click Pay and save ABA file. Kontuly writes the ABA file (also called a direct entry or Cemtex file) for you to upload in your internet banking, and records every payment in the same step.

Before your first batch

  • Your bank account. In Chart of Accounts, edit the bank account you pay from and fill in Batch payment (ABA) details: its BSB, Account number, Bank code (three letters, such as CBA, WBC, NAB or ANZ), Direct entry user ID (APCA) and Direct entry user name. Your bank gives you the user ID and name when it sets you up for batch payments.
  • Each supplier. In Contacts, enter their BSB and Account number under Bank account (for paying them). The account name is optional; the contact's name is used if it's blank.

Pay a batch

  1. Click Pay bills in Bills.
  2. Choose the account under Pay from, and the Payment date.
  3. Tick the bills to pay. Each is paid in full. A supplier with no bank details is shown but can't be ticked until you add them.
  4. Check On your statement. Up to 12 characters; CREDITORS if you leave it blank. Tick the balancing debit box only if your bank asks for a self-balancing file.
  5. Click Pay and save ABA file and choose where to save it.
  6. Upload the file in your internet banking.

Every ticked bill is marked Paid. Each supplier sees the bill's number as the payment reference.

What do I do when the debit shows up in Banking?

Your bank shows one debit for the whole batch. Click its match icon in Banking and choose the batch under Supplier payment batches. Nothing is recorded twice.

What if the bank didn't process the batch?

On the Batches tab of the same window, click Cancel on that batch: its payments are reversed and the bills are owing again. A batch matched to a bank line can't be cancelled until you unassign that line. ABA file saves the file again, exactly as first written. You can't take a single payment out of a batch.

Limits

Batches are for bills in Australian dollars, paid from an Australian dollar account. Kontuly writes the file; it doesn't connect to your bank or send the payment itself.
