Why does Kontuly say a payment can't be dated before the invoice?

Applies to Kontuly 0.2 beta Updated

In Kontuly, an invoice or bill can't fall due before it's issued, and a payment can't be dated before the invoice's issue date or the bill date. If you see "The due date can't be before the issue date" or "A payment can't be dated before the invoice's issue date", check the dates.

Common causes

  • A typo in the year or month on the invoice, bill or payment.
  • The customer paid before you invoiced, for example a deposit or cash up front. Date the invoice on or before the payment, if that's right for your records.
  • The bill date is the date you entered it, not the date on the supplier's invoice. The Bill date should be the date printed on their invoice; the cost and GST are recorded on it.

How do I fix it?

  • On a draft, change the Issue date, Due date or Bill date and save.
  • On an approved invoice or bill, the dates can't be changed. If the date really is wrong, void it and enter it again. See Why can't I edit an approved invoice or bill?
  • On the payment, change its date in the Record payment window before you save it.

When a payment comes from Banking, it takes the bank line's date. If that's earlier than the invoice, check the invoice's issue date.
