How do I run a Profit and Loss report in Kontuly?
Click Profit and Loss in Kontuly's sidebar, under Reports, and choose the Period or type From and To dates. It shows your income, costs and the profit or loss for the period, and it updates as soon as you change a control.
- Open Profit and Loss from the sidebar, or from All reports under Financial statements.
- Choose the Period. This financial year, Last financial year, or Q1 FY to Q4 FY. Type your own From and To for any range.
- Choose Compare with if you want a comparison: Previous period or Same period last year. A Change column is added.
- Click an account to open the General Ledger and see the transactions behind it.
- Click Export PDF or CSV to save it.
How is it laid out?
By each account's report group: Trading income, then Cost of sales and Gross profit (if you have cost of sales), Operating expenses, Operating profit (when there's other income or expenses below it), Other income and Other expenses, and finally Net profit or Net loss. The notes show your gross and net margins.
If an account is in the wrong section, change its Report group in the Chart of Accounts; every report updates straight away.
Cash or accruals?
The Profit and Loss is always on the accruals basis: sales and costs count on the invoice, bill or transaction date, not when they're paid. Amounts exclude GST if you're registered.
