How do I split a bank transaction across accounts in Kontuly?

Applies to Kontuly 0.2 beta Updated

In Kontuly's Banking screen, click Split on an unassigned transaction, give each line an account, tax rate and amount including GST, and click Split when the status says Fully allocated. Use it whenever one bank line covers more than one thing.

  1. Click Split on the unassigned transaction. The first line starts with the whole amount.
  2. Fill in each line. Choose an Account, add an optional Description, check the Tax rate (it starts at the account's default) and enter the Amount (incl.): that line's share of the bank amount, including GST. The GST in each line shows underneath.
  3. Click Add line for more lines. Remove one with its ×; a split always needs at least two lines.
  4. Watch the status. It shows N left to allocate or N over. Fill remainder puts whatever is left on the last empty line.
  5. Click Split when it says Fully allocated.

The row then shows Split · N accounts; click it to see the lines.

A part-private purchase

Code the private share to Owner's Drawings with No GST, and the business share to the right expense account with its GST rate. You then claim GST only on the business share. How much is private is your call; check with your accountant if you're unsure.

What are the rules?

  • The lines must add up to the bank amount exactly.
  • Every line needs an account and an amount greater than zero.
  • Bank accounts, Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable can't be used on a split line. Use a transfer, or match the line to an invoice or bill instead.

How do I change a split?

Click Unassign (reverse) on the row, then split it again. Kontuly reverses the original entry rather than editing it, so both stay in your journals. See How do I fix a bank transaction coded to the wrong account?
