How do I fix a wrongly coded bank transaction in Kontuly?

Applies to Kontuly 0.2 beta Updated

In Kontuly, a posted entry is never edited: click Unassign (reverse) on the bank line in Banking, and it goes back to unassigned so you can code it again with the right account or GST rate. Kontuly records a reversing entry, so both the original and the correction stay in your journals.

  1. Find the line in Banking. If it was cleared from the list, click Show reviewed.
  2. Click the undo icon (Unassign (reverse)) at the end of its row.
  3. Code it again. Choose the right account and, if needed, the right tax rate in the box in front of it.

Wrong GST on one transaction

The tax rate box starts at Account's rate, the account's default from the Chart of Accounts. Choose a different rate before picking the account when one line is different. If the account's default is wrong for most of its transactions, change its GST code in the Chart of Accounts first. A line that needs two rates needs a split.

What does unassigning undo?

  • Coded or split: the entry is reversed and the split removed.
  • Matched to an invoice, bill or refund: the payment is removed and the invoice or bill shows that amount as owing again.
  • Linked to a payment you recorded by hand: just unlinked; the payment stays on the invoice or bill.

"This transaction is reconciled (statement …) — undo that bank reconciliation first"

The line is part of a finished reconciliation. Undo the latest reconciliation, fix the line, and reconcile again.

"Period is locked: transactions on or before … cannot be changed"

The line is dated on or before your lock date. If you've already lodged that BAS, the usual practice is to leave it and post a correction in the current period. Otherwise move the lock date, fix it, and set it again. See How do I lock a period?
