Why does Kontuly say a bill total must be greater than zero?

Applies to Kontuly 0.2 beta Updated

A bill in Kontuly can't be negative overall, so you'll see "A bill total must be greater than zero — use a supplier credit note instead". If the supplier's document is a credit, record it as a supplier credit note on the Suppliers tab of Credit notes, with New supplier credit.

Can a bill have a negative line?

Yes. A bill can include a negative line, such as a discount, as long as the whole bill still comes to more than zero. The same goes for invoices: a discount line is fine, but the total must be more than zero.

Where does the credit go?

Approving the supplier credit note reduces your costs, the GST you can claim and what you owe that supplier. Apply it to one of their unpaid bills under Apply to bills, or record the refund if they pay you back. See How do I record a supplier credit note?
