Why does Kontuly say "duplicates skipped" after a bank import?

Applies to Kontuly 0.2 beta Updated

Kontuly skips any imported line that's already in that bank account with the same date, amount and description, and counts it as a duplicate. That's what makes it safe to import overlapping statement files, and normally it's exactly what you want.

Two identical transactions on the same day

If your bank genuinely shows two identical lines on one day (two $5.00 coffees, say), both are kept as long as they're in the same file. If they arrive in two separate files, the second is treated as a duplicate. Add it with Add transaction in Banking.

A transaction I added by hand came in again

A line you typed in is only skipped if its description is exactly the same as the bank's, which it usually isn't. So you'll often get both. Delete the one you don't need (unassign it first if it's coded).

A line I deleted came back

Deleting an imported line removes it from Banking, but importing the same file again brings it back. If the line doesn't belong in the books, mark it Ignore (non-business) instead of deleting it.

How do I check nothing is missing or doubled?

Reconcile the account to the statement. A missing or doubled line shows up as a difference.
