Why does Kontuly say "Ledger differs" from the statement balance?

Applies to Kontuly 0.2 beta Updated

In Kontuly's Banking screen, this amber note means the account's balance in your books (the Ledger balance) doesn't match the running balance on the last statement line you imported. Something is still uncoded or ignored, recorded twice, or coded to the wrong bank account; reconciling the account will show what.

Common causes

  • Lines still to review. An unassigned bank line isn't in your books yet. Code or match everything in the review list.
  • A line ignored that shouldn't be. Ignored lines post nothing. Money the owner took out belongs in Owner's Drawings, not ignored.
  • The same payment twice. For example a payment recorded by hand on an invoice and the bank line also coded to income. Link the bank line to the existing payment with Match instead.
  • A transaction in the wrong account. For example a credit card purchase imported into the cheque account.
  • No opening balance. If the account had money in it before your first transaction in Kontuly, that opening balance needs to be in the books.

How do I find it?

Click Reconcile in the balance panel. Enter the statement date and closing balance and tick the entries; the difference points to what's missing or extra. See How do I reconcile a bank account? and Why won't my bank reconciliation balance?
