Why doesn't my GST Report match what I expected in Kontuly?

Applies to Kontuly 0.2 beta Updated

When Kontuly's GST Report doesn't show the figures you expected, the cause is almost always the basis, the period, transactions not yet approved or coded, or a tax code. Work through these checks in order, with View set to Detail to see every transaction behind the figures.

  1. Basis. Check Basis on the report. Cash and Accruals give different figures for the same period. See Cash or accruals.
  2. Period. Check From and To match the BAS you're preparing. The Dashboard GST card may be showing a different period (last period, while it's still due).
  3. Missing transactions. Draft invoices and bills, and unassigned bank lines, aren't included. Approve them or code them.
  4. Tax codes. Set View to Detail and look at the Tax rate of each transaction. Bank lines take the rate of the account they're coded to unless you chose another.
  5. Things deliberately left out. Payments to and refunds from the ATO, clearing journals, manual journals, and amounts at No GST never appear.
  6. Registration. If Registered for GST is off in Settings, nothing posts GST at all.

A transaction has the wrong GST

Correct it at its source: void and re-enter the invoice or bill, or unassign and recode the bank line. If that period's BAS is already lodged, don't change it there: voiding reverses on the original date and changes that period. Lock the period and correct it in the current one instead, and ask your accountant or BAS agent how to report it.

G1 moved but 1A didn't

On the accruals basis, G1 is the movement on your income accounts plus 1A. A manual journal to an income account changes G1 without changing 1A or 1B.

Past periods changed

The report is always worked out from today's settings. Changing the accounting basis, or back-dated entries, change past periods too. Keep a PDF of each lodged period, and use the lock date to protect it.

The check "GST by rate agrees to 1A and 1B" warns
