Should I ignore personal transactions in Kontuly's Banking?

Applies to Kontuly 0.2 beta Updated

Usually not. In Kontuly, money the owner takes out for personal use belongs in the books coded to Owner's Drawings, and money the owner puts in is coded to Owner's Capital; only ignore a bank line that genuinely doesn't belong to the business or is already recorded another way.

Why not just ignore drawings?

An ignored line posts nothing. If the money really left the business bank account, ignoring it leaves your bank balance in the books higher than the real one, and the account won't reconcile. Coding it to Owner's Drawings with No GST keeps the books right and keeps it off your profit.

For a purchase that's partly personal, split it: the private share to Owner's Drawings with No GST, the business share to its expense account.

How do I ignore a line?

  1. Hover over the unassigned line in Banking.
  2. Click the eye-slash icon (Ignore (non-business)) at the end of the row.

The line stays in the list, greyed out as Ignored (non-business). To ignore many at once, tick them and click Ignore selected.

How do I bring an ignored line back?

Click the restore icon (Restore) on its row. It becomes unassigned again, ready to code.

Ignore or delete?

  • Ignore keeps the line in Kontuly, marked as non-business. Re-importing the statement won't bring it back as new.
  • Delete (the bin icon) removes the line completely. Use it for a genuine duplicate or a line added by mistake. If you import the same statement again, a deleted line comes back.
