What happens when my Kontuly trial ends?

Applies to Kontuly 0.2 beta Updated

When the Kontuly trial ends, your books become read-only: every screen still opens and nothing is deleted, but you can't change anything. Enter a licence key and everything works again exactly as you left it.

What still works?

  • Every screen opens, and you can look at everything you recorded.
  • Reports, invoice and statement PDFs, CSV files and exports to other accounting packages.
  • Backups keep running, and you can export a backup.

What stops?

  • Recording, approving, voiding or importing anything.
  • Changing settings.
  • Emailing invoices and statements. Overdue reminders stop too.

The strip at the top of the screen says so, with Enter licence key. See How do I enter my Kontuly licence key?

What if the trial ended before I set up a business?

Kontuly opens on Your free trial has ended, where you can enter a licence key.

Can my books become read-only for other reasons?

Yes, with a licence too:

  • the licence hasn't checked in with the licensing server for over 60 days (connect to the internet and click Check now in Settings → Licence);
  • the computer was deactivated, or the licence revoked;
  • you have more businesses than the licence covers, which makes only the extra businesses read-only.

Kontuly licence messages explained covers each one.

Do I lose my data if I never buy a licence?

No. The books stay on your computer and keep opening read-only, so you can always report on them, export them for your accountant or move them to another package.
