Does Kontuly work offline?

Applies to Kontuly 0.2 beta Updated

Yes. Kontuly works offline, because your books are on your computer. It needs the internet only to start the trial, activate or deactivate a licence, check in with the licensing server at least once every 60 days, send email, fetch exchange rates and download updates.

How long can I stay offline?

  • On the trial: until the trial's end date.
  • With a licence: up to 60 days since the licence last checked in. Settings → Licence shows the date the next check-in is due.

Kontuly checks in when it starts and once a day while it's open, so anyone online at least once every 60 days never notices.

What happens after 60 days offline?

The books become read-only until you connect. Nothing is lost. Connect to the internet, open Settings → Licence and click Check now.

What does the check-in send?

The licence check, nothing about your books. Kontuly doesn't collect analytics about how you use it. The check is also how the app picks up a licence moved to another computer; Check now runs it straight away.

What needs a connection while I'm working?

  • Emailing invoices, statements and overdue reminders, which go through your own email account.
  • Checking for and downloading updates.
  • Exchange rates, if you use other currencies. Without a connection, the rates already on file are used.

Everything else, from coding bank lines to running the GST Report, works offline. See Is Kontuly cloud software?
