How do I update Kontuly to the latest version?
Kontuly checks for a new version each time it starts, and shows a small green dot next to About in the sidebar when one is ready. Open About, click Download, then Restart to install it.
- Click About in the sidebar.
- Click Download under Updates, where you'll see Update available and the version number. A progress bar shows the download.
- Click Restart when you see Update ready to install. Kontuly closes, installs the update and opens again.
Nothing downloads or installs until you click.
How do I check by hand?
Click Check for updates on the About page. If you're up to date, you'll see You're on the latest version. If you see "Could not check for updates. Check your internet connection.", connect and try again.
Are my books safe during an update?
Yes. Your books stay where they are. If an update changes how data is stored, Kontuly takes a Before update backup of each business before converting it. It's listed in Settings → Backups.
Once a business has been opened by a newer version, older versions of Kontuly can't open it. See This business was saved by a newer version of Kontuly.
Why isn't a new version offered?
A licence includes every version released in its first 12 months. After that, the version you have keeps working, and a newer one isn't installed unless the licence is renewed. During the beta there's nothing to renew. See Which Kontuly licences are there?
What else is on the About page?
Licence & Legal (version, release date and contact details) and Troubleshooting, with Show logs and Show crash reports for support. Email addresses are masked in the logs, and crash reports never leave your computer unless you send them.
