Why is one of my businesses read-only in Kontuly?

Applies to Kontuly 0.2 beta Updated

If Kontuly says "This business is read-only: your licence covers …", you have more businesses than your licence allows. They all stay on your computer and open as usual, but only as many as the licence covers can be changed. Choose which ones in Settings → Licence.

  1. Open Settings → Licence.
  2. Find Businesses you can change.
  3. Tick the businesses to keep active, up to your licence's limit.
  4. Click Save active businesses.

The others stay open read-only: you can look at them, run reports and export them, but not change them.

How did I end up with too many?

Usually by setting up more businesses during the trial (which allows 5) than your licence covers, or by restoring backups, since each restore adds a new business. The sample business counts too while it exists.

How do I free up a place?

Delete a business you no longer need, such as the sample or a restored copy you didn't keep. A final backup is saved first.

Why can't I add a new business?

When you reach the limit, New business and restoring a backup as a new business both say so. Free up a place first. Licence limits are listed in Which Kontuly licences are there?
